Langston Hughes is one of my favorites. He is illustrative, captivating and brilliant. I just love his work!
(Below are two poems from his book “The Dream Keeper”…)
My People
The night is beautiful,
So the faces of my people.
The stars are beautiful,
So the eyes of my people.
Beautiful, also, is the sun.
Beautiful, also, are the souls of my people

A beautiful poem I read when I was twelve-years old and loved ever since…
~“Live For You”~
I wish I was and that I’m not
To have lived my life with heart not thought
I’ll never know what could’ve been
If only I had just jumped in
I’ll start my life
Right here
Right now
To live life fully
I make this vow
I am young but aged
Smart not wise
I look back and think
What were truths
What were lies
That’s my story
It’s sad but true
So always remember,
Live YOUR life
For YOU~

I love to read poetry just as much as I love to write it. The funny thing is, initially I didn’t read this poem, I heard it over the phone and loved it instantaneously.
The words are very simple and the message is beautiful! The title itself is intriguing. “The Perfect Friend” is written by a wonderful and talented woman, who I am lucky to consider as my friend and family. Ladies and gentlemen presenting ….
“THE PERFECT FRIEND”
Today I found the perfect friend
Who knew everything I felt
She knew my every weakness
And the problems I have been dealt.
She understood my wonders
And listened to my dreams
She listened to how I felt about life and love
And knew what it all means.
Not once did she interrupt me
Or tell me I was wrong
She understood what I was going through
And promised she’d stay long
I reached out to this friend
To show her that I care
To pull her close and let her know
How much I need her there.
I went to hold her hand
To pull her a bit nearer
And I realized this perfect friend I’d found
Was nothing but a mirror.

One of my favorite poems from the great Maya Angelou….
Touched by an Angel
We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.
Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.
We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free…
